The 874K Disabilities Coalition, comprised of more than 75 organizations across the Commonwealth and representing more than 23% of Kentucky’s population, is hosting its twentieth annual advocacy event in Frankfort.  The theme of this year’s event is: 874,000+ Returns on Kentucky’s Investments!

The 874K Disabilities Coalition event provides policy-makers with an opportunity to understand the independence and productivity that Kentuckians with disabilities gain when they are able to obtain employment; access person-directed services; find inclusive education opportunities and assistive technology; use accessible transportation in both urban and rural areas; locate safe and supported housing; and access appropriate treatment and recovery.  With ongoing services and supports, 874,000+ Kentuckians with disabilities are making good returns on Kentucky’s investments!

The state’s budget deficits threaten ongoing services and supports utilized by more than 874,000 Kentuckians with disabilities.  Investments need to be made wisely, keeping Kentuckians in their home communities, rather than in institutional settings.

Starting as early as 8am, 874K participants will be meeting with legislators from their home districts to educate them about their successes and unmet needs, as well as the very real and critical personal hardships that budget cuts and state funding deficits have created and threaten to increase.   Lunch will be served in our reserved rooms and in the Annex cafeteria from 10:30am-11:45am. Rally in the Rotunda begins promptly at 12:30pm and will end at approximately 2:00pm EDT.

Assistance will be available the day of the event. Please contact your coalition representative or our office for details.
